Is there something in the water?

I have been online more recently whilst staying with my daughter. On a bonus I was able to tidy up my website and catch up on recording some podcast material. As much as I like to think I can get loads done it seems to take me quite a while. I also get distracted and go off down multiple rabbit holes.

Now this image is quite clearly fake, it represents me stepping into a hole where I am surrounded by lots of items that I live with and that I use regularly. This was created in Canva and I enjoyed working out the best ways to layer the images. The only orignal bit is the photo of me from my camera. You may recognise the toad from my podcast The Cauldron of Curiosities

I wanted to create the image based on the idea of Alice disappearing off following the different clues and ideas in Lewis Carols book. I am sure I did not need to tell you it was Canva, but there are some photos and videos being shown where you might wonder if they are real. AI does get used to create short videos especially if you pay a regular fee. MidJourney is an AI platform that will allow you to create AI content video to fool most people.

Lies, half-truths and downright fabrications.

I learnt the hard way as a youngster that despite hearing ‘Adults’ wax lyrical about not lying, god forbid you tell the truth when it embarrasses them or puts them in a bad light.

My previous post about Ma’at highlighted some of the principles of Ancient Egypt, it seems that things were more clear cut about what people should not do. “I Do Not Lie”

Lying is a complex behavior that intertwines various evolutionary, neurological, and psychological dimensions (Mind Lab;2026).

We are talking about using lies to protect ourselves and others. On the one hand you have a person who is undertaking a good samaritan activity – maybe hiding a fugitive and the guards come searching for the fugitive. The person concealing the fugitive is unlikely to admit they are hiding anyone. It would not end well. But lets be honest it is a lie – they are not telling the truth.

So who decided when lying was ok and when it is not. When was the ethical and moral debate held over the instances in which lying was acceptable?

Has the blurring of the lying lines meant that people have forgotten to differentiate between fiction and fact. This has led to the media bombarding people with opinions that are based upon a web of whatever narrative the fat controller wants the goggle box audience to swallow.

How do you know what is the truth when you are scrolling social media? Do you respond immediately to what you see or do you do a bit of your own digging?
