History and Heritage Location-Stuart House
I have set up an event called conjuring your inner crone, it is to be held in Stuart House a 16th Century building in Liskeard. The building has character, it has had adjustments made to it and it has been brought into 21st Century use but retains its recesses and walled garden that allows personal conversations to take place overheard by the ghosts of Georgian maids. A perfect place to gather those exploring their character and wisdom.
What is a crone?
The crone is a rite of passage into wisdom and embraces a period where we can draw upon experience and knowledge to see with all of our ‘eyes’. It is stepping into our personal power. I certainly found that my perceptions changed as I developed and matured mentally. I am pretty certain that I was educationally immature before I started to understand who I was and how my brain worked. To quote Clarissa Pinkola Estes (2011) “the crone see with the heart’s eyes, with the soul’s eyes, through the eyes of the creative force and the animating force of the psyche.”
Do you have to be old to be a crone?
As being a crone is about a state of being its not necessarily about an age. A conversation about being offended by the word crone I believe comes from our different cultural perspectives – this encouraged me to look up the origin of this word. My first hit was A Rolling Crone Blog
It seems that honouring older women and their experience and referring to them in less salubrious language came with the dominion of men over women. The word Crone went from being a honourable title to one of misogynistic abuse “Carogne” 14th Century Anglo-Saxon (Cambridge English Dictionary, 2025). In Gaelic Crone means a person with blond(e) hair. There is alos reference to these women being magical which is a whole other story.
“looking through the eyes of the creative force”
Tapping into our inner creative force or our connection to Mother Earth is one of the key elements of the workshop. All attendees will be given the opportunity to nourish their creativity through writing and journaling before crafting their own wand or staff using a range of provided resources. Queen of Creativity Joanne Ballinger is providing expertise and resources for this highly sought after experience. Wand Making workshops can be provided as a stand alone activity.
